Refine, update, and enhance the usability of #iTeachMSU by optimizing navigation and elevating the user experience. Our goal is to make it easier for users to connect, engage, and showcase their professional achievements. We will streamline features, enhance accessibility, and promote meaningful interactions that empower users to effortlessly build and strengthen their professional networks.

What is #iTeachMSU?

- #iTeachMSU is an online platform associated with Michigan State University that connects educators, faculty, students, and staff to share resources, best practices, and professional achievements. It is part of MSU's broader efforts to foster a collaborative teaching community and enhance the university's educational environment.

Research

Facts about iTeachMSU

- At MSU there was never a teaching and learning center, it was always an extension of another on-campus organizatin

- When iTeachMSU was created, there was no clear objective of what everyone wanted this platform to look like and how it will be used

That is where we come in :)

Key Points about iTeachMSU's UX/UI:

Strengths: Great concept of Share, Connect, Grow slogan

Weakness: Very cluttered, there is no clear use for the platform, just a lot of “capabilities”

Improving Desktop UX:

- Intuitive Dashboard: A clean, organized landing page with easy access to courses, assignments, grades, and teaching tools.

- Course Management: Features for uploading materials, managing assignments, and tracking student progress in a structured layout.

- Collaboration & Communication: Integrated messaging, discussion boards, and collaboration tools for student interaction.

- Seamless Integration & Accessibility: Single sign-on (SSO) with MSU, customizable settings, and responsive design for smooth performance across devices.

User Testing

Conducting Card Sorts 

Each Participant was asked to complete an closed card sort. There was a word bank of iTeachMSU features and they were instructed to categorize those features from lowest to highest importance.

Participants: 16 participants, compiled of students, professors, and faculty

This platform caters heavily to faculty and professors

Of the 25% who were familiar, they have heard about #iTeachMSU by: 

- Having some materials on the platform, browses on there occasionally 

- MSU Communications/Email 

- MSU IT EdTech Team occasionally posts workshop trainings on the platform 

Many participants are for the ability to track event on this platform

Not a huge portion of participants stated they would like to frequently post on the platform but would still like to receive information
